This course introduces doctoral researchers to entrepreneurial mindset and various career pathways from research to impact. Participants will explore how scientific ideas can evolve into market-ready innovations, learn to evaluate commercialization potential of their own research ideas and/or projects, and understand the processes, challenges, and opportunities of science-based value creation and capture. Through lectures, case studies, group work, and experiential activities, students will gain practical insights into innovation, intellectual property, opportunity recognition, and value creation, while developing transferable skills in communication, creativity, and problem-solving.

Meaningful work is increasingly important to people and especially pursued amongst younger generations. Experiencing one’s work as meaningful results in many positive consequences, such as work satisfaction and eudaimonic wellbeing. At its’ best, it helps people to discover agency in the world characterized by several crises such as climate breakdown, conflict, inequality, and the political divide. Purpose-led organizations focus on driving purposeful change whilst providing their employees with meaningful work and regenerating the operational environment.
The course considers the topics of meaningful work and purpose-led organizations by introducing an action-oriented pedagogical approach to studying, including lectures, case examples, and co-operative learning methods. Via co-operative learning methods students will form research questions of the course topics and explore them by different methods and informed by theoretical inputs. Co-operative learning methods will also include meaningful action as experiments during the course.
The course supports student integration as well as working life skills by learning methods that apply participatory action and allowing reflection on students’ future roles as agents in work life through the concept of meaningful work.

The course focuses on the role of arts-based methods in innovation and organizational development. The arts-based methods mean applying art and its methods to increase people's knowledge and skills by opening experiential knowledge, intuition, and tacit knowledge that can be applied in organizational development. The aim of the course is to introduce arts-based methods and how arts-based methods facilitate, for example, building up dialogue between different people, lowering barriers to make-sense on complicated issues, and share experiences as well as imagine possibilities and future scenarios. Theoretically, the course draws on collective creativity, sense-making, and reflection. In practical level, the course introduces the use of arts-based methods in a variety of industries with visiting lectures and experts.

All companies need to make strategic decisions regarding IPRs and standardization as well as follow the IPR, standardization and regulatory landscapes in their target markets.
Students will conduct a course project where they analyze the IPR and standardization environment from the perspective of a specific company and industry.
