This course introduces students to the foundational ideas of operational research (OR) with minimal mathematical formalism. Designed for accessibility, the course focuses on concepts rather than calculations. It includes: An introduction to statistics and model building. A historical and philosophical overview of OR’s development. Case studies of OR applications and misuses. Reflections on the culture of quantification in science and policy. Discussions on ethics, uncertainty, and the limits of modeling.

Core content: This course covers the main topics of multiple criteria decision making under certainty, uncertainty and risk. The topics discussed during the course therefore include: principles of decision making under certainty, uncertainty, risk and ignorance, multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) and evaluation methods (TOPSIS, AHP), the use evaluations of absolute and relative type, efficiency assessment models (DEA), game theory (non-cooperative games of two players, cooperative games of two players with/without transferable gains, games against nature), validation of decision support systems and models and sensitivity analysis. MATLAB and Excel are used to build the models and solve assignments, to showcase the practical application of the presented methods. Additional content: fuzzy logic in decision-making is also covered, along with topics such as decision-support systems (DSS), expert systems and optimization. Special content: The course also introduces students to the basics of multiple expert decision-making and reaching consensus.

The course is designed to facilitate students' self-directed learning, guided by the principles of student-centered learning and Problem-Based Learning (PBL). This course provides an introduction to the key topics and themes in strategic management. It is designed to help students understand how businesses achieve success by leveraging their competitive advantages. The course covers how to conduct case analysis, measure organisational performance, conduct external and internal analyses and implement strategy across various levels of an organisation. Students will explore various strategies used by firms at the business/competitive, corporate and international levels. Sustainability considerations are integrated throughout the course. 

This is a basic-level course on research methods in business studies. Its objective is to advance students' understanding of various principles and practices of conducting qualitative and quantitative research and to improve their readiness to execute a research project. The course covers the fundamentals of the research process, survey development, interview guides, and data analysis, all focusing on issues specific to business studies and emphasizing practical experience with the application of R and NVivo softwares. The main learning outcomes are understanding the uses and limitations of common tools for analyzing data. Students will improve their capacity to interpret and critically assess the methodological execution of empirical business studies. On completion of this course, students are prepared to utilize obtained methodological skills in their bachelor’s theses and/or other research projects.

The purpose of this course is to allow the students develop an overview to recent theory but also to relevant challenges and global concerns. The course combines economic, social and environmental sustainability aspects and the UN SDGs with managerial and entrepreneurial issues on international business triggering the students to rethink and critically address ways forwards. Students develop skills and competences to tackle complex real-life problems in collaboration with others while facilitating their entrepreneurial mindsets and sense of purpose. The variety of theory application settings develops global mindsets and fosters students’ sensitivity on diverse aspects international business.

The course will focus on questions concerning technological advancement, social transformation, and perceptions of nature. It will begin by examining how management as a field is increasingly transdisciplinary and how it advances by connecting to both natural and social sciences, as well as to humanities. The course will then proceed to investigating the questions of responsibility and desires in business, including the potential and perils of technology. It will discuss the requirements of transformation in cultures of growth and the importance of how nature is perceived. Implications to practice are discussed in-class.
