Tuotantotalous - Industrial Engineering and Management

This course has three sections, in the first section, this course aims to discuss technology theories, disruptive technologies, and disruptive innovations. This course will introduce business students to recent technological trends, such as Cloud Computing, to enhance their understanding of how these technologies are influencing contemporary businesses. In the second part, this course intends to develop learners’ understanding of digital innovation and transformation, reinventing business models for digital strategy, and creating digital products and services. In the third section, this course unpacks recent platform revolutions to explore their designing, marketing, monetizing, and strategy elements. It will help students to understand technology-oriented markets and business models (platforms) that are revolutionizing the traditional way of doing business.

In addition to lectures, course contains practical evidence-based approach to managing innovation in a wide range of contexts, including manufacturing, services, small to large organizations and the private, public and third sectors.

During the introductory (orientation) course students will get essential instructions into master level education in industrial engineering and management (IEM) at LUT University, The INLOG program, challenge-based education, LUT culture and the region. During this intensive course students will have following lectures and seminars: introduction to master studies in IEM, essentials to INLOG program, regional student life and Finnish culture, and vital elements of challenge-based education and experiential learning. As a part of this course students will execute personal study plan in workshops. As a requirement to pass the course students must complete an online exam and validated study plan.

The course focuses on the valuation of income securities and common stocks and providing understanding about risks analysis and market hypothesis. The course also provides introduction to corporate finance and capital budgeting. Core content: Corporate financial decisions, capital structure, interplay between investments and financing decisions.

Background and basics of digital transformation. Digitalization as part of a company’s strategy. Adoption of digitalization in the organization and evaluating the effects of digitalization.

The lectures cover a range of topics concerning business marketing, including organizational buying behavior; market research; segmentation, targeting and positioning; strategic planning of marketing; market entry tactics and pricing; product strategy and product development; digitalization and services for business markets; managing business marketing channels; business to business marketing communications; future of business marketing. The course integrates theory and practice to foster active involvement and self-reflection and aid students in preparing for professional practice.

The course focuses on the preparation and analysis of financial statements, and on the form of financial statements. The course will also cover the basics of financial reports and transactions. During the course will provide students understanding about accounting terms, and how financial statements are constructed. It will also give them ability to read financial statements. Core content: Accrual accounting, revenue, inventory, intangible assets, finance investments, liabilities and stockholders' equity.

Challenges and skills of innovation management, distinguishing innovation types, innovation processes, collaboration between different stakeholders, and supporting creativity in innovation.

The course focuses on the role of performance management and measurement in digitalizing business environment. The course provides students basic understanding about the different performance measurement systems. Core content: Performance management practices, performance measurement, performance measurement systems, performance analysis.

Core content: practical study-related information and skills, learning skills, time management, library databases and information search, personal curriculum, and study and career plan.

Laadullisen ja määrällisen tutkimuksen taustat, peruslähtökohdat ja suuntaukset. Opiskelija tunnistaa laadullisen ja määrällisen tutkimuksen metodologian sekä näiden erot. Opiskelija tunnistaa laadullisen ja määrällisen tutkimuksen erityispiirteet, tutkimusprosessin kulun, aineiston keruun ja analyysin päämetodit. Tutkimuksen raportointi. Opiskelija osaa valita oman tutkimusongelmansa perusteella sopivimmat tutkimusmenetelmät. Hän pystyy soveltamaan ja käyttämään laadullisen ja määrällisen tutkimus- ja analyysimenetelmiä omassa tutkimuksessaan.
